Reflection Essay 2
Both Michael J. Perry (in “Are Human Rights Universal? The Relativist Challenge and Related Matters”) and Jerome J. Shestack (in “The Philosophic Foundations of Human Rights”) explore important issues related to the bases for human rights. In an essay of approximately 1250-1750 words (5-7 double-spaced, typewritten pages), please explore one or more of the issues they address. You might focus on what philosophical underpinnings you think make the most sense (and why), on the possibilities of resolving conflict over the meaning of a particular right, on the difficulty of agreeing on a set of human rights in the first place, etc. Whatever issue(s) you choose to address, be sure to draw on both articles. Please use the Chicago author-date format for all citations and for your list of works cited.
The essay is due by class time on Tuesday, October 27. Please write your essay in Google Documents and submit it by sharing it with me at my saintmarys.edu address.
